The Mentalist is a show that rarely jumps out with something incredibly good, but you can rely on it for light fun. We got to see lots of expensive cars, including on that goes off a cliff, Jane doing all sorts of tricks, and we got to see car salespeople get what they deserve (ok, maybe not the one who got murdered).
There was a new dynamic with Jane befriending Mashburn, a creepy but otherwise innocent rich guy. Jane delights Mashburn with his mentalist abilities and they hand out for a long while. The divide between that story and the main story was
Van Pelt and Risgby fought for the first time, and it was artificial. Since their scenes came few and far between, the conversations didn't amount to much. Rigsby makes an off-hand statement that his job is more important, Van Pelt overreacts, and it only gets worse from there. At the end of the episode, Lisbon lets them off, so they should be fine.
