Preview of Week 10/30/11 - 11/6/11

Covert Affairs - USA, Tuesday, November 1, 10:00pm ET

Covert Affairs return for the last half of its second season. As one would expect, it's the same show as always.

Bones - FOX, Thursday, November 3, 9:00pm ET

Bones is finally back!!!! After the bombshell baby revelation last season, I've been eagerly awaiting to see what's going on.

Burn Notice  - USA, Thursday, November 3, 10:00pm ET

I believe I said in my last review of Burn Notice that I wasn't going to review the show anymore. If time permits, I'll watch the new episodes, stare at the explosions, and keep my mouth shut about the plot.

Preview of Week 10/23/11 - 10/29/11

Once Upon a Time - ABC, Sunday, October 23, 8:00pm ET

ABC dips into the fairy tale realm with Once Upon a Time. The pilot is charming enough, cutting between the fairy tale world and the present time without ever becoming too dark, so I'll definitely be watching more episodes.

Chuck - NBC, Friday, October 28, 8:00pm ET

Chuck is back for its final season, after a major twist to end the fourth season. The series began with Chuck becoming the Intersect and now he doesn't have any special powers. I'm not sure how this will work out.

Grimm  - NBC, Friday, October 28, 9:00pm ET

Less than a week after Once Upon a Time, NBC airs its own fairy tale with a twist, though with a much greater emphasis on procedural. Considering it's going right up against Supernatural and Fringe in the timeslot, I don't think it'll do well in the ratings.

Preview of Week 10/16/11 - 10/22/11

The Walking Dead - AMC, Sunday, October 16, 10:00pm ET

The zombie scenario will always be interesting, but it remains to be seen whether the characters can be anything more than the side show.

Man Up - ABC, Tuesday, October 18, 8:30pm ET

ABC's Tuesday comedy block seems intent on focusing on "Man." I don't think these shows will work in the long run.

Boss - Starz, Friday, October 21, 9:00pm ET

After the disastrous Hank, hopefully Kelsey Grammer's next show will be an improvement. Given that Starz is getting ambitious with its dramas, Boss should be more watchable.

Sunday, October 9, 2011

Preview of Week 10/9/11 - 10/15/11

Breaking Bad - AMC, Sunday, October 9, 10:00pm ET

The season finale of Breaking Bad. I don't think more description is needed.

Enlightened - HBO, Monday, October 10, 9:30pm ET

It seems like HBO will have a more serious comedy with Enlightened, a workplace comedy about a woman after a breakdown.

Last Man Standing - ABC, Tuesday, October 11, 8:00pm ET

Tim Allen returns to television in a show about a guy surrounded by women. I guess you can make a show out of that idea.

Psych - USA, Wednesday, October 12, 10:00pm ET

Psych may have stale writing after 5 seasons, but the cast is so good that it doesn't seem to matter.

Sunday, October 2, 2011

Preview of Week 10/2/11 - 10/8/11

Dexter - Showtime, Sunday, October 2, 9:00pm ET

More killing, more killers, more relationship drama. Same ol' Dexter is back.

Homeland  - Showtime, Sunday, October 2, 10:00pm ET

Homeland promises mystery, intrigue, and a glimpse at the post-9/11 intelligence world, and the pilot certainly delivers.

House - FOX, Monday, October 3, 9:00pm ET

With Cuddy gone and this being the last season, I suppose it won't hurt too much to watch House on its last legs, even if there's nothing original left in it.

American Horror Story - FX, Wednesday, October 5, 10:00pm ET

Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk created the show so I'm worried how everything will turn out. Hopefully they let Tim Minear and James Wong do the writing.

Sanctuary  - Syfy, Friday, October 7, 10:00pm ET

It's kind of annoying how the writers keep rotating around "the greatest threat to humanity" in different forms each season, but I'll be watching regardless.

Sunday, September 25, 2011

Preview of Week 9/25/11 - 10/1/11

The Good Wife - CBS, Sunday, September 25, 9:00pm ET

From all the promos, I'll take a bold guess about the third season of The Good Wife: it's going in a new direction. How's that for taking a stand?

Boardwalk Empire - HBO, Sunday, September 25, 9:00pm ET

At the end of the end of the first season, things had settled down between the fighting factions, as the episode title, "A Return to Normalcy," suggests. However, it was clear to everyone watching that there were still plenty of tension underlying this normalcy. With Boardwalk Empire's return, all these issues will be brought up once more.

Pan Am  - ABC, Sunday, September 25, 10:00pm ET

Pan Am has been getting some of the best reviews this fall season. We'll see how good it actually is.

Terra Nova - FOX, Monday, September 26, 8:00pmm ET

After delays and delays, Terra Nova is finally here. I'm guessing the pilot will be spectacular, with a huge budget for CGI dinosaurs. Beyond that, though, we'll see if the writing can match up.

Hart of Dixie - CW, Monday September 26, 9:00pm ET

Hart of Dixie is predictable with all the Southern stereotypes imaginable, but Rachel Bilson sure is good.

How To Be A Gentleman - CBS, Thursday, September 29, 8:30pm ET

Another CBS multi-camera sitcom. Yay...

Sunday, September 18, 2011

Preview of Week 9/18/11 - 9/24/11

After a preview-less summer, they're back. I've listed all the new show premieres and some other premieres I'm looking forward to. Since there are so many shows, I don't have many thoughtful comments on them.

How I Met Your Mother - CBS, Monday, September 19, 8:00pm ET

Okay, so maybe we won't learn who the Mother is anytime soon. The show is still funny as hell.

2 Broke Girls - CBS, Monday, September 19, 9:00pm ET

The '2' in the show's title is somewhat worrisome, but the premise sounds promising.

Two and a Half Men - CBS, Monday, September 19, 9:30pm ET

What will the new Two and a Half Men look like? Probably a lot like the old one.

Hawaii Five-0 - CBS, Monday, September 19, 10:00pm ET

Regardless of whether the show resets back to normal procedural mode, Hawaii Five-0 at least has some interesting material to work with.

Castle - ABC, Monday, September 19, 10:00pm ET

Who's ready for another season of will-they-won't-they?

The Playboy Club - NBC, Monday, September 19, 10:00pm ET

The producers have said The Playboy Club is actually about female empowerment. Somehow I doubt that... It reminds me of the statement Tom Brady's people released the other day, clarifying that he meant "drink water and stay hydrated" when he told the fans to "start drinking early."

NCIS - CBS, Tuesday, September 20, 8:00pm ET

Tony is on another secret mission, so I guess I'm interested.

Glee - FOX, Tuesday, September 20, 8:00pm ET

Will Glee rebound after a very uneven sophomore season?

New Girl - FOX, Tuesday, September 20, 9:00pm ET

For those who love Zooey Deschanel in heavy, heavy doses, this is the perfect show. If not, get ready.

Unforgettable - CBS, Tuesday, September 20, 10:00pm ET

CBS has been airing lots of previews for the show and there's one thing that bothers me a lot--the possibility that the show will turn into Poppy Montgomery rattling off a list of facts to a stunned crowd.

Criminal Minds - CBS, Wednesday, September 21, 9:00pm ET

The return of Emily and JJ!

Modern Family - ABC, Wednesday, September 21, 9:00pm ET

Modern Family in the great outdoors should be fun.

CSI - CBS, Wednesday, September 21, 10:00pm ET

CSI takes another turn with a star, this time with Ted Danson.

Revenge - ABC, Wednesday, September 21, 10:00pm ET

Revenge sounds better than Ringer if that means anything. We'll see if the writers take things less seriously.

The Big Bang Theory - CBS, Thursday, September 22, 8:00pm ET

Penny and Raj... lol wut.

Community - NBC, Thursday, September 22, 8:00pm ET

The best comedy on television returns.

Charlie's Angels - ABC, Thursday, September 22, 8:00pm ET

ABC tries to make yet another show succeed at 8 PM on Thursday, and I think it'll work this time around.

Parks and Recreation - NBC, Thursday, September 22, 8:30pm ET

Ron's other ex-wife, also named Tammy, is here. What unspeakable crime did she perpetrate against him?

The Office - NBC, Thursday, September 22, 9:00pm ET

Life in the office after Michael Scott should be interesting.

Person of Interest - CBS, Thursday, September 22, 9:00pm ET

Michael Emerson is always welcome on television, so we'll see how the pans out.

Whitney - NBC, Thursday, September 22, 9:30pm ET

I'm not sure how this show could be interesting at all.

The Mentalist - CBS, Thursday, September 22, 10:00pm ET

After the bombshell season finale, what does The Mentalist have in store? Major props to the writers for turning things around in the third season after a pretty bad second season.

Prime Suspect - NBC, Thursday, September 22, 10:00pm ET

Another British remake hits American television, but I'm not sure the hour-long per week format really works with the premise of the original.

A Gifted Man - CBS, Friday, September 23, 8:00pm ET

Another CBS show about something communicating with a dead person. Hmm...

Supernatural - CW, Friday, September 23, 9:00pm ET

Alert! Wild angel on the loose!

Fringe - FOX, Friday, September 23, 9:00pm ET

After the stunning season three finale, I'm sure everyone is eagerly awaiting the season finale.

Preview of Week 5/08/11 - 5/14/11

Stargate Universe - SYFY, Monday, May 9, 9:00pm ET

The Stargate franchise comes to an end tomorrow night with the series finale of Stargate Universe. Unlike some people, I won't be too sad. There was already a Hollywood movie, 10 seasons for SG-1, 5 for Atlantis, 2 direct-to-DVD movies, and 2 seasons of Universe. There have been missteps along the way--3 failed video games (I feel sorry for those who bought Resistance), premature cancellations, and the new movies not going ahead--but it's been a long journey which had to come to an end eventually.

Community - NBC, Thursday, May 12, 8:00pm ET

The epic paintball fight which begun last week will continue this week with the second part and season finale.

Bones - FOX, Thursday, May 12, 9:00pm ET

If you watched the promos, something really big is supposed to happen. We'll see if the writers can deliver.

Smallville - CW, Friday, May 13, 8:00pm ET

After ten seasons, Smallville finally comes to an end with a two hour series finale.

Sunday, May 1, 2011

Preview of Week 5/01/11 - 5/07/11

Law & Order: Criminal Intent - USA, Sunday, May 1, 9:00pm ET
In Plain Sight - USA, Sunday, May 1, 10:00pm ET

Criminal Intent returns for its final season with Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe back in tow while In Plain Sight begins the season with Mary McCormack's pregnancy written in the story.

NCIS - CBS, Tuesday, May 3, 8:00pm ET

We finally get to see how Gibbs met Tony!

Justified - FX, Wednesday, May 4, 10:00pm ET

The penultimate episode of this season ended with Raylan's decision to spare Dickie kicking him in the butt. With an episode named "Bloody Harlan," we can pretty much imagine what will happen.

Fringe - FOX, Friday, May 6, 9:00pm ET

After the marvelous ending to the last episode, Peter in an apocalyptic future, the season finale this week should be a good one.

Sunday, April 24, 2011

Preview of Week 4/24/11 - 4/30/11

Treme - HBO, Sunday, April 24, 10:00pm ET

HBO's acclaimed drama returns tonight. One thing I'm looking for is whether there is tighter plotting than the first season.

Glee - FOX, Tuesday, April 26, 8:00pm ET

This 90-minute, Lady Gaga-themed episode could be a total disaster, given Glee's track record, or it could be decent.

Justified - FX, Wednesday, April 27, 10:00pm ET

After the bloodshed at the end of the last episode, the second to last episode of the episode will definitely be a good run up to the season finale.

The Office - NBC, Thursday, April 28, 9:00pm ET

Michael Scott's final episode should be a must-watch for anyone who's followed the show at some point.

Fringe - FOX, Friday, April 29, 9:00pm ET

Season finale time means that shows like Fringe reach another level of epicness. With the machine turned on and Peter in the hospital, these last two episodes should be great.

Sunday, April 17, 2011

Preview of Week 4/17/11 - 4/23/11

Burn Notice - USA, Sunday, April 17, 9:00pm ET

In what appears to be an attempt to squeeze out as much money out of the show as possible, USA brings us The Fall of Sam Axe, a long, lackluster episode of Burn Notice.

Game of Thrones  - HBO, Sunday, April 17, 9:00pm ET

HBO's highly anticipated drama arrives tonight and should do just fine. However, I do wonder how people will react to it, given its similarities to Camelot and The Borgias.

Glee - FOX, Tuesday, April 19, 8:00pm ET

Glee is back after a month, so we'll see what the characters are up to in the run up to nationals.

Sunday, April 10, 2011

Preview of Week 4/10/11 - 4/16/11

Happy Endings - ABC, Wednesday, April 13, 9:30pm ET

What's this, another comedy about couples? I'm guessing this is at least the 5 one premiering this season and the second from ABC.

Supernatural - CW, Friday, April 15, 9:00pm ET

After a disappointing episode over a month ago, hopefully Supernatural can return with a better episode.

Sunday, April 3, 2011

Preview of Week 4/03/11 - 4/09/11

The Killing - AMC, Sunday, April 3, 9:00pm ET

AMC's new drama begins tonight, and in the absence of Breaking Bad, it should be a good fit for the network. The premise and even promotional posters are very reminiscent of Twin Peaks, so we'll see if it stands up.

The Borgias - Showtime, Sunday, April 3, 9:00pm ET

Showtime has another historical drama, following the end of The Tudors, which follows an important historical family.

Lights Out - FX, Tuesday, April 5, 10:00pm ET

The series has been cancelled, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the culminating fight between Lights and Teynolds.

Breaking In - FOX, Wednesday, April 6. 9:30pm ET

With only a 7 episode order and FOX non-animated comedies not doing great, Breaking In doesn't look like a show that is high on Fox's priorities. Still, the premise, a group tech guys breaking into computers, is different than the multitude of romantic comedies that have been churned out this year.

Sunday, March 27, 2011

Preview of Week 3/27/11 - 4/02/10

Shameless - Showtime, Sunday, March 27, 10:00pm ET

The season finale of Showtime's surprisingly good remake of the British show is tonight and should be a episode, with three characters possibly going to jail.

Nurse Jackie - Showtime, Monday, March 28, 10:00pm ET
United States of Tara - Showtime, Monday, March 28, 10:30pm ET

Showtime's two dramedies return Monday night.

Body of Proof - ABC, Tuesday, March 29, 10:00pm ET

After all their new shows failed, ABC rolls out a medical drama starring Dana Delany.

Sunday, March 20, 2011

Preview of Week 3/20/11 - 3/26/11

Big Love - HBO, Sunday, March 20, 9:00pm ET

HBO's next big drama--if you consider it to be the spiritual successor to The Sopranos, The Wire, etc--comes to an end. Through the ups and downs of emotion and quality, Big Love has had five seasons worth of story, and it all comes down to a final episode. As an added bonus, Amanda Seyfried is returning.

The Office - NBC, Thursday, March 24, 9:00pm ET

The Office has been gone for a month, and this week's episode is the first of Steve Carell's final  four episodes.

Parks and Recreation - NBC, Thursday, March 24, 9:30pm ET

Like the pit, the Harvest Festival appeared to be the next big project. However, last week's already quickly pushed that idea out of the way, as the festival was up and running. So what's problem with plague the team now?

Sunday, March 13, 2011

Preview of Week 3/13/11 - 3/19/11

This is a little late, but remember to set your clocks ahead an hour if you haven't already.

V

The cliffhanger from the end of last season is finally having some effect with the alien invasion on Earth's doorstep. Maybe things will finally pick up.

Criminal Minds

Now that Paget Brewster has joined a pilot, it's even more likely we won't be seeing her next season. Let's hope the second part will be as good as the first.

Sunday, March 6, 2011

Preview of Week 3/6/11 - 3/12/11

Breakout Kings - A&E, Sunday, March 6, 10:00pm ET

Read my review here. If you're not going to watch Shameless, you might as well watch Breakout Kings.

The Event - NBC, Monday, March 7 8:00pm ET

The Event returns with 2 new episodes. I hardly remember what happened last time, but it probably won't matter.

Stargate Universe - SYFY, Monday, March 7, 10:00pm ET

Stargate Universe has been cancelled, but we still get to see the final 10 episodes, thankfully not burned off on one night. On the other hand, I'm fully prepared to be underwhelmed.

Southland - TNT, Tuesday, March 8, 10:00pm ET

Ben is finally graduating (the first three season cover less than a year of time) and also must deal with John's continued decline due to drug use.

White Collar - USA, Tuesday, March 8, 10:00pm ET

After the revelation that Alex is somehow involved with Kate's death, the season finale this week should be interesting.

Sunday, February 27, 2011

Preview of Week 2/27/11 - 3/05-11

Castle - ABC, Monday, February 28, 10:00pm ET

The final of the two-parter airs Monday night and in line with Castle's previous two-episode endeavors, it should be good.

Supernatural - CW, Friday, March 4, 9:00pm ET

The last episode until April brings Supernatural back to the Mother of All plot after last week's meta detour.

Sunday, February 20, 2011

Preview of Week 2/20/11 - 2/26/11

Royal Pains - USA, Thursday, February 24, 9:00pm ET

With Hank and Evan tossed out of Boris's house and Divya spilling the secret of kissing a patient, the Royal Pains season finale is sure to be interesting.

Supernatural - CW, Friday, February 25, 9:00pm ET

Sam and Dean become Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. Too meta? Nah.

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena - Starz, Friday, February 25, 10pm ET

The finale of Spartacus: Gods of the Arena will probably involve lots of blood... just a guess.

Sunday, February 13, 2011

Preview of Week 2/13/10 - 2/19/10

Mad Love - CBS, Monday, February 14, 8:30pm ET

Another sitcom about love? Well, at least Sarah Chalke is back on television.

Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior - CBS, Wednesday, February 16, 10:00pm ET

When the backdoor pilot aired last year, I was not impressed by the new team. And why does there have to be a new Criminal Minds, when the two teams will be doing the same thing every week, traveling around the country to profile criminals? CBS's others spin-offs are in different locations which allows for some differentiation.
