Going over ABC's 2011-2012 primetime schedule

MONDAY: 8:00 p.m. “Dancing with the Stars”
10:00 p.m. “Castle”

With Castle in the 3 range consistently in the last part of the season, this night should continue to be strong.

8:30 p.m. “Man Up”
9:00 p.m. “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show”
10:00 p.m. “Body of Proof”

8:30 p.m. “Suburgatory”
9:00 p.m. “Modern Family”
9:30 p.m. “Happy Endings”

With Cougar Town moved to midseason, Happy Endings takes the post-Modern Family slot. Interesting choice.

THURSDAY: 8:00 p.m. “Charlie's Angels”
9:00 p.m. “Grey's Anatomy”
10:00 p.m. “Private Practice”

Charlie's Angels is either going to flop or become really popular, so we'll have to see what happens.

CBS's Monday comedy line-up looks strong as always.

TUESDAY
8:00-9:00 PM NCIS
9:00-10:00 PM NCIS: LOS ANGELES
10:00-11:00 PM UNFORGETTABLE (N)

The Good Wife is moved out of 10pm slot in favor for... another crime show! Seems like a no-brainer.

WEDNESDAY
8:00-9:00 PM SURVIVOR: SOUTH PACIFIC
9:00-10:00 PM Criminal Minds
10:00-11:00 PM CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (NT)

CSI moving to the time slot after Criminal Minds seems like a good choice.

THURSDAY
8:00-8:30 PM The Big Bang Theory
8:30-9:00 PM HOW TO BE A GENTLEMAN (N)
9:00-10:00 PM PERSON OF INTEREST (N)
10:00-11:00 PM The Mentalist

CBS is trying to launch another comedy after TBBT after $#*! My Dad says was canceled and launching a new crime drama before The Mentalist.

FRIDAY
8:00-9:00 PM A GIFTED MAN (N)
9:00-10:00 PM CSI: NY
10:00-11:00 PM Blue Bloods

8:00-9:00 PM THE Amazing Race
9:00-10:00 PM The Good Wife (NT)
10:00-11:00 PM CSI: MIAMI

After struggling this year, The Good Wife is moved to Sunday nights. Will it work?

Fox midseason schedule and thoughts

MONDAY
Monday, Jan. 10:
8PM-10PM: LIE TO ME (Two-Hour Episode)

Mondays, beginning Jan. 17:
8PM: HOUSE (All-New Episodes)
9PM: LIE TO ME (All-New Episodes)

Mondays, beginning Feb. 7
8PM: HOUSE (All-New Episodes)
9PM: THE CHICAGO CODE (Series Premiere)

It looks like Lie to Me won't be getting a back 9 unless its ratings miraculously jump. And still, Chicago Code will have to go somewhere.

TUESDAY
Tuesdays, beginning Jan. 4:
8PM: GLEE (Encore Episodes)
9PM: MILLION DOLLAR MONEY DROP (All-New Episodes)

Tuesdays, beginning Feb. 8:
8PM: GLEE (All-New Episodes)
9PM: RAISING HOPE (All-New Episodes)
9:30PM: MIXED SIGNALS (Series Premiere)

WEDNESDAY
Wednesday, Jan. 5 and 12:
8PM-10PM: HUMAN TARGET (All-New, Two-Hour Episodes)

Wednesday, Jan. 19:
8PM: AMERICAN IDOL (Two-Hour Season Premiere, Part One)

Wednesdays, beginning Jan. 26:
8PM: AMERICAN IDOL
9PM: HUMAN TARGET (All-New Episodes)

Wednesdays, beginning Feb. 16:
8PM-10PM: AMERICAN IDOL (Two-Hour Episodes)

Wednesdays, beginning April 6:
8PM-9:30PM: AMERICAN IDOL (90-Minute Episodes)
9:30PM: BREAKING IN (Series Premiere)

Fox still wants Human Target to succeed, putting Idol before it. I doubt it will help though. Breaking In is Fox's other big hope.

THURSDAY
Thursdays, beginning Jan. 6:
8PM: MILLION DOLLAR MONEY DROP (All-New Episodes)
9PM: BONES (Encore Episodes)

Thursdays, beginning Jan. 20:
8:PM: AMERICAN IDOL (Season Premiere, Part Two)
9PM: BONES (Time Period Premiere)

I wonder how Bones will affect CSI. Even in a more competitive timeslot, I doubt Bones will be hurt because Idol will definitely help.

FRIDAY
Friday, Jan. 7:
8PM: AT&T COTTON BOWL (Live)

Friday, Jan. 21:
8PM: KITCHEN NIGHTMARES (Season Premiere)
9PM: KITCHEN NIGHTMARES (Encore)

Fridays, beginning Jan. 28:
8PM: KITCHEN NIGHTMARES (All-New Episodes)
9PM: FRINGE (Time Period Premiere)

Fringe exiled to Friday--definitely not good, but Fox has been struggling greatly on Friday and if Fringe can maintain its current ratings, it may be enough to survive.

SATURDAY
Saturday, Jan. 15:
8PM: NFC DIVISION PLAYOFFS (Live)

Saturdays, beginning Jan. 22 (no change to lineup):
8PM: COPS (All-New Episodes)
8:30PM: COPS (Encore Episodes)

8:30PM: BOB'S BURGERS (All-New Episodes)
9PM: FAMILY GUY (All-New Episodes)
9:30PM: THE CLEVELAND SHOW (All-New Episodes)

Sunday, Jan. 30:
7PM: NFC PRO BOWL (Live)

Sunday, Feb. 6:
6PM: SUPER BOWL XLV (Live)
10:30PM: GLEE (All-New Special Episode; Approximate Start Time)

Sundays, beginning Feb. 13 (no change to lineup):
7:30PM: AMERICAN DAD (Time Period Premiere)
8PM: THE SIMPSONS (All-New Episodes)
8:30PM: BOB'S BURGERS (All-New Episodes)
9PM: FAMILY GUY (All-New Episodes)
9:30PM: THE CLEVELAND SHOW (All-New Episodes)

NBC midseason schedule and thoughts

MONDAYS

8-9 p.m. – “Chuck”
9-10 p.m. – “THE CAPE” will premiere with a two-hour episode on Sunday, January 9 (9-11 p.m.). New episodes start in its regular time period on January 17 (9-10 p.m.)
10-11 p.m. – “HARRY’S LAW’ (beginning January 17)
9-10 p.m. – “The Event” (returns on February 28, 9-11 p.m.; resumes in its regular time slot March 7)
10-11 p.m. — “Parenthood” (debuts in this slot March 7 with all originals)

Parenthood moving nights doesn't bode well since The Event won't work well as a lead in and it was doing fine on Tuesday (relative to the rest of NBC). On the other hand, Parenthood won't be going up against The Good Wife now.

TUESDAYS
8-10 p.m. — “The Biggest Loser: Couples” (beginning January 4)
10-11 p.m. – “Parenthood” (beginning January 4 for four episodes)
10-11 p.m. — “Law & Order: Los Angeles” (beginning February 8 )

With American Idol moving nights, The Biggest Loser should have an easier time. We'll see if that carries over to LOLA.

WEDNESDAYS
8-9 p.m. — “Minute to Win It” (beginning January 5)
9-10 p.m. –“Chase” (beginning January 12)
10-11 p.m. – “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (originals beginning January 5 with two-hour episode, 9-11 p.m. ET)
9-10 p.m. – “AMERICA’S NEXT GREAT RESTAURANT” (beginning March 16)

Chase is going right up against Criminal Minds, so it won't do better than it already is. Law and Order: SVU takes back the 10 o'clock hour, so its ratings should go up.

THURSDAYS (all beginning January 20)
8-8:30 p.m. – “Community”
8:30-9 p.m. – “PERFECT COUPLES”
9-9:30 p.m. – “The Office”
9:30-10 p.m. – “Parks and Recreation”
10-10:30 p.m. – “30 Rock”
10:30-11 p.m. – “Outsourced”

NBC adds the 10 PM hour to its comedy block, replacing The Apprentice. NBC's hope is that The Office will bolster Parks and Rec. while 30 Rock will keep Outsourced from falling too much. Will is work?

FRIDAYS
8-9 p.m. — “Who Do You Think You Are?” (beginning January 21)
9-11 p.m. – “Dateline NBC” (beginning January 7)

SUNDAYS
7-8 p.m. – “Dateline NBC”
8-9 p.m. – “The Marriage Ref” (beginning March 6)
9-11 p.m. – “The Celebrity Apprentice” (beginning March 6)

CW 2010-2011 Schedule and Thoughts

MONDAY
8:00-9:00 PM 90210 (New Night)
9:00-10:00 PM GOSSIP GIRL

TUESDAY
8:00-9:00 PM ONE TREE HILL (New Night)
9:00-10:00 PM LIFE UNEXPECTED (New Night)

The two dramas which narrowly missed cancellation will be paired together.

WEDNESDAY
8:00-9:00 PM AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL
9:00-10:00 PM HELLCATS (New Series)

American's Next Top Model hasn't been a good lead-in for new shows the past few years, but Hellcats may do better.

THURSDAY
8:00-9:00 PM THE VAMPIRE DIARIES
9:00-10:00 PM NIKITA (New Series)

CW seems to be pinning its hopes on Nikita which gets the coveted slot after The Vampire Diaries.

FRIDAY
8:00-9:00 PM SMALLVILLE
9:00-10:00 PM SUPERNATURAL (New Night)

The combo is back together on another night.

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

9:00-9:30 PM TWO AND A HALF MEN
9:30-10:00 PM MIKE & MOLLY (N)
10:00-11:00 PM HAWAII FIVE-0 (N)

Mike & Molly replaces TBBT and the Hawaii Five-O remake takes the successful slot previously held by CSI: Miami.

TUESDAY
8:00-9:00 PM NCIS
9:00-10:00 PM NCIS: LOS ANGELES
10:00-11:00 PM THE GOOD WIFE

Surprisingly, CBS kept Tuesday intact even thought The Good Wife ratings have suffered from Parenthood.

WEDNESDAY
8:00-9:00 PM SURVIVOR (NT)
9:00-10:00 PM CRIMINAL MINDS
10:00-11:00 PM THE DEFENDERS (N)

Again, I find it interesting that Survivor, which thrived on Thursday, the day for high ad prices, was moved to Wednesday. The Thursday line-up gives a clearer picture. The Defenders is a new comedy-drama. Will it work with Criminal Minds?

THURSDAY
8:00-8:30 PM THE BIG BANG THEORY (NT)
8:30-9:00 PM $#*! MY DAD SAYS (N)
9:00-10:00 PM CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION
10:00-11:00 PM THE MENTALIST

CBS is going for NBC's throat by targeting Community and 30 Rock with The Big Bang Theory and William Shatner's new comedy Shit My Dad Says.

FRIDAY
8:00-9:00 PM MEDIUM (NT)
9:00-10:00 PM CSI: NY (NT)
10:00-11:00 PM BLUE BLOODS (N)

After some low ratings, CSI: NY was moved to Friday. Blue Blood is another cop drama, starring Tom Sellec.

SATURDAY
8:00-9:00 PM CRIMETIME SATURDAY
9:00-10:00 PM CRIMETIME SATURDAY
10:00-11:00 PM 48 HOURS MYSTERY

SUNDAY
7:00-8:00 PM 60 MINUTES
8:00-9:00 PM THE AMAZING RACE
9:00-10:00 PM UNDERCOVER BOSS
10:00-11:00 PM CSI: MIAMI (NT)

CSI: Miami, which has been the strongest CSI, will get the Sunday slot which hasn't fared well for Cold Case.

ABC 2010-2011 Schedule and Thoughts

MONDAY: 8:00 p.m. “Dancing with the Stars”

10:00 p.m. “Castle”

No changes here.

TUESDAY: 8:00 p.m. “No Ordinary Family”

9:00 p.m. “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show”

10:00 p.m. “Detroit 1-8-7”

ABC is trying to launch 2 new shows around DWTS, but with the declining ratings of the results show and heavy competition, they could be in trouble.

WEDNESDAY: 8:00 p.m. “The Middle”

8:30 p.m. “Better Together”

9:00 p.m. “Modern Family”

9:30 p.m. “Cougar Town”

10:00 p.m. “The Whole Truth”

The Middle moves to 8 for Better Together and The Whole Truth gets the 10pm slot which did horribly for ABC this year.

THURSDAY: 8:00 p.m. “My Generation”

9:00 p.m. “Grey’s Anatomy”

10:00 p.m. “Private Practice”

FlashForward and The Deep End didn't work out in the slot, so ABC is trying about with My Generation.

9:00 p.m. “Body of Proof”

10:00 p.m. “20/20”

SATURDAY: 8:00 p.m. “Saturday Night College Football”

8:00 p.m. “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”

9:00 p.m. “Desperate Housewives”

10:00 p.m. “Brothers & Sisters”

Monday, May 17, 2010

Fox 2010-2011 Schedule and Thoughts

MONDAY
8:00-9:00 PM HOUSE
9:00-10:00 PM LONESTAR (new)

House is a great lead-in for any new drama.

9:00-9:30 PM RAISING HOPE (new)
9:30-10:00 PM RUNNING WILDE (new)

After several comedic failures this season, Fox will try to launch 2 new series with Glee.

WEDNESDAY
8:00-9:00 PM LIE TO ME
9:00-10:00 PM HELL’S KITCHEN

Lie to Me gets a slot without much competition other than NBC's Undercovers which may prove to be more than a challenge.

THURSDAY
8:00-9:00 PM BONES
9:00-10:00 PM FRINGE

Fox is sticking with this combo, but the ratings have been on the low end.

FRIDAY
8:00-9:00 PM HUMAN TARGET
9:00-10:00 PM THE GOOD GUYS

I guess Fox is trying to make some noise on Friday (again) with Human Target and the new drama The Good Guys from Burn Notice creator Matt Nix. Will it work?

SATURDAY
8:00-8:30 PM COPS
8:30-9:00 PM COPS

(All Times ET/PT)

MONDAY
8:00-9:00 PM HOUSE
9:00-10:00 PM LONESTAR (new) / RIDE-ALONG (new)

Ride-Along is The Shield creator Shawn Ryan's new project, so it's bound to be good.

Fox using Idol to launch a new comedy.

NBC 2010-2011 Schedule and Thoughts

MONDAY
8-9 p.m. Chuck
9-10 p.m. The Event
10-11 p.m. Chase

Chuck is paired with two freshman dramas. There are those out there who complain about NBC not giving Chuck a fair chance, and the show staying in the same timeslot is more proof. Let's be realistic here. It'll take more than a Cheers-like miracle for Chuck to become a hit. It'll be in its fourth season and NBC has given it more than enough promotion in the first few seasons. If it's not a hit now, it'll never be. Still, I'd like to see what would happen if Chuck was given a decent lead-in, but The Event and Chase both don't seem like 8pm shows.

TUESDAY
8-10 p.m. The Biggest Loser
10-11 p.m. Parenthood

One of the few pairings that actually works (subjectively when compared to the rest of NBC) will stay intact for the fall.

WEDNESDAY
8-9 p.m. Undercovers
9-10 p.m. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
10-11 p.m. L&O: Los Angeles

Undercovers is J.J. Abrams's child and NBC doesn't want to mess that up. Wednesday is a relatively competition-free night, so sticking it at 8 would be a safe choice. Despite a pretty substantial ratings decline, Law & Order: SVU is staying at 9, where is was hurt the most, and becoming a lead-in for Law & Order: LA. With CSI: NY plummeting against SVU, it's not a terribly bad idea.

THURSDAY
8- 8:30 p.m. Community
8:30-9 p.m. 30 Rock
9-9:30 p.m. The Office
9:30-10 p.m. Outsourced
10-11 p.m. Love Bites

Most notable is the absence of Park and Recreations, which has been move to midseason, and the move of 30 Rock from 9:30 to 8:30 to make room for the new comedy Outsourced.

FRIDAY
8-9 p.m. Who Do You Think You Are?/School Pride
9-10 p.m. Dateline NBC
10-11 p.m. Outlaw

Outlaw looks like a goner.

SATURDAY
Reruns

SUNDAY
7- 8:15 p.m. Football Night in America
8:15-11:30 p.m. NBC Sunday Night Football

SUNDAY (beginning March 2011)
7-8 p.m. Dateline NBC
8-9 p.m. Minute to Win It
9-11 p.m. The Celebrity Apprentice

January Return Dates

Lots of shows are coming back from extended breaks (2 months+), so here's a list of them with some of my thoughts.

Chuck - Sunday, January 10

I can't believe Chuck got renewed, but it's coming back with a two-hour season premiere and another episode the next day in the regular 8 PM time slot.

Big Love - Sunday, January 10

The long-term arcs for Big Love are very average, but the acting and occasional flashes of creative brilliance makes the show worth watching.

Leverage - Wednesday, January 13

The second season has undoubtedly been worse than the first which isn't too big a problem since the first season was so good. From what I read, Gina Bellman won't be showing up for a while.

24 - Sunday, January 17

24 is my favorite show in television for the sheer force that is Jack Bauer. I don't care about plot holes or wacky storytelling; Kiefer Sutherland is still amazing after seven seasons and I am looking forward to the eighth season and hopefully ninth.

White Collar - Tuesday, January 19

I thought White Collar would be the best new drama of the season, but the stories have been lackluster. The chemistry and acting is still on par with the amazing pilot.

Burn Notice - Thursday, January 21

Burn Notice is finally back and Michael is back at square one trying to get back into the spy game. His motivations? We still don't know, but the show is still a blast to watch.

Damages - Monday, January 25

Damages is a brilliant show and we are lucky to have gotten a third season. If not for the critical praise, the show would be a goner.

Psych - Wednesday, January 27

The show is now about Shawn blurting out random dribble, but James Roday is such a great comedic actor it is actually funny. The show has gotten exceedingly stupid and I still laugh.
