There's not much to say about the episode other than WOW. It's the first time Fringe has broken from the mold and it was as impressive as an episode could get. The episode was slow, not very flashy, and the most emotional episode to date. Fringe has a hard time hitting the right notes on the emotional level most of the time, but it succeeded this week in a big way. John Noble as incredible as usual and Orla Brady who played Walter's wife Elizabeth meshed well with him.
The plot follows the death of Peter and Walter's quest to save the Peter in the alternate universe. His insistence on saving the Peternate (If the other Walter is called the Walternate, isn't Peternate appropriate?) turns into a misguided kidnapping, and the first step to the intersection between the two worlds. Along the way, the Observers pop up and we see that the Observer September, saved Peter and Walter in the pond, because he had distracted the Walternate from finding Peter's cure.
The episode ends as Olivia looks, with a pensive face, at Walter, still not sure what to make of his story or of Peter. She doesn't make a sound and the episode ends. So what happens next? We didn't learn anything new except that the alternate universe is approximately 30 years ahead in technology. I would have liked to see even a small hint of what is to come.
I loved the retro 80s theme, but the the retro 80s 3D text to delineate the location was near impossible to read/ Good thing it's for one week only.
