Review - The Mentalist Season 2 Episode 18 Aingavite Baa

How long is this Hightower thing going to last? She's been nothing but trouble so far and there doesn't seem to be an easy way out unless the team blackmails her or she is killed. Jane and the rest of them regularly break the rules, so Hightower is actually enforcing them. Then again, she does give some leeway to what Jane can do. This week she carried out her threat of confront Rigsby and Van Pelt. Rigsby decides to work in major crimes (for CBI?) , but Van Pelt doesn't want to pressure of knowing their continuing relationship came at the cost of Rigsby losing his job. They break up and the episode ends with a crying Van Pelt and an awkward Lisbon in the elevator.

The case went as it usually does, and Hightower didn't do much except show her disapproval several times. A woman is found near dead bodies with no memories. That story mostly went away as the crime solving turned towards the Indian reservation. Her memories aren't even restored until the very end when the crime was already cracked wide open. Instead of Jane recovering her memories to solve the case, he manipulates her into finding the murderer who killed three people to hide toxic dumping into the lake.

Just to alleviate everyone's minds (because I know this was the biggest worry), Aingavite Baa means Red Water in Shoshone, so the episode title still has something to do with red. You can all breathe easily now.

Score: 8.6/10
