With Raylan suspended, there wasn't a case this week and it allowed Raylan to focus on Winona and her husband, Gary. The ongoing story is that Gary is in business with shady characters and owes money to Will. Wynn Duffy, the guy that showed up to threaten Winona, is crazy--not a normal thug. He's sadistic and isn't afraid to do anything. His path leads to a few beatings and broken bones before everyone is in Duffy's boss's office where a bunch of people shoot each other. And Raylan doesn't even have a gun!
I'm not sure how to feel about Winona anymore. She's a pleasant person, but she choice of Gary makes her seem kind of dim. Gary has ambitions that Raylan never had, but Gary's also a flat out loser who gets into these situations, inviting others to hurt him once the deal doesn't go down as planned. Winona's wistful thinking about Gary actually succeeding allows her to continue loving Gary. Because Gary's business dealings are mostly resolved, I doubt we'll see much of Winona anymore, which is good news since Winona seems really silly.
The self-loathing of Raylan came out starting from the very beginning. He gets himself beaten by two guys while drunk and for the entire episode forces himself to help Gary despite his clear feelings on Gary. Raylan could do with an attitude adjustment, in between Gary's wild fantasy about the shopping mall and his own plain existence.
