This season, Castle has become a tad more serious in the behavior of the characters, notably Castle. The show remains funny, but unlike The Mentalist, what the characters do can be seen in a certain degree of realism. "Overkill" possibly overkilled the extent of what Castle would do. Castle tries to one-up Demming the entire episode, acting clownish and childish. Demming, a total professional, wants noting to do with Castle's games and goes along without getting too involved. Both have a different suspect in mind and in the end, they're both correct.
The case was basic as usual although it did feature two killers. The bigger story is that Castle has to deal with Beckett being with someone else. If Castle wants to change something, he should actually talk to Beckett, not do this shell game which isn't productive. At the end of the episode, Castle sees Demming and Beckett kiss and looks torn. The season finale is next week, so we may see some kind of conclusion.
