The Good Wife does an impeccable job at transitioning between Alicia's home life and work life. This week's episode was primarily a work life one with shades of her home life creeping in. Alicia and Cary's competition has been referenced since the first episode, but it seemed more of an afterthought since the conclusion was so far away. Well, at the beginning of "Unplugged" we are told upfront a decision will be made and with that, everything else in the episode becomes unimportant.
The case wasn't bad at all, though my mind was fixated on who would win. A rock star who is about to divorce his wife for another woman suddenly gets in a motorcycle accident and goes into a coma. The writers strayed away from the controversial issue by not choosing sides on the debate over keeping a coma patient alive, focusing on the money instead. And the issue is resolved with a sizable split of the money. Everyone is happy in the end, except for me who wide-eyed when they were discussing hundreds of thousands of dollars annually for the wife.
What happens to Cary? He doesn't look happy at the end of the episode and the writers are too smart to write him out. I'm guessing he becomes Alicia's rival at another firm. It's interesting how Alicia treated him in the end. While he was about to explode with joy in the end before even talking to Will and Diane, Alicia doesn't show any emotion and Cary assumes it is because she is laid off. Once he learns the real truth, he is pissed off.
Now that Eli Gold helped Alicia and made sure she sees, Alicia has to get on board with the campaign, her personal life spilling into her work life. Eli seems willing to help Alicia as long as she is Peter's wife. If Alicia really tapped into that resource, she could get all the help she needs.
