Review - Legend of the Seeker Season 2 Episode 7 Resurrection

After almost a month off, Legend of the Seeker was back with a strong episode loaded with almost everything imaginable. I thought the episode could have been a two-parter, but since it was one, there were certain things that were glossed over that could have been further developed.

Denna was back, oddly running a brothel which was a front for something more. When a Mord Sith resorts to prostitution, there has to be a reason. General Grix is out to become ruler of D'Hara by eliminating all competition, including Richard. Denna captures Grix and uses magic as part of her master plan. The strength of the episode was the main story of power hungry Denna and her plan for domination.

The idea that magic is all-powerful--and from we've seen, it is--diminishes much of what makes a show compelling. Denna using magic to let Grix inhabit Richard's body was a neat trick, but that's about all it was. If magic can let someone take over someone's dead body, everyone seems so much more convenient. All the planning and strategy could be rendered useless (though planning and strategy is rarely smart in LOTS anyways). Then, magic can bring a dead person to life, in this case Richard who is the main character. Kahlan's sister Dennee also returned except she was in another's body and still had her Confessor powers. Talk about easy way outs.

I wanted to see more of how Kahlan and Cara dealt with Dennee's return. Since the episode had so many things going on at the same time, there were only a couple scenes where everything slowed down to accommodate the huge revelation. And when everything was over, Dennee basically became the woman she took over. I'm guessing she'll be back soon, because there is so much that isn't resolved.

The next few episodes look like they will be about Denna. Maybe she will die this time, but then again, she can always get resurrected.

Score: 9.2/10
