Sons of Tuscon is another bland, unimaginative show to add to Fox's non-animated comedy lineup. The star, Tyler Labine of Reaper, is talented and funny. That's about as far as the show gets. The premise would seem very despairing with fatherless children trying to make it on their own, but the show tries to make a big joke out of the situation. Three kids, Robby, Gary, and Brandon, need a fill-in dad for their father who is in prison. They employ the slacker, Ron (Labine), to be their dad for the day. Eventually, they decide to make the agreement more permanent, settling on a $300 a week salary and housing.
The story meanders from place to place without focus, relying on the kids making Ron go places to move the story forward. Along the way, Ron meets Robby's teacher Maggie Morales, deals with his grandmother, and drives around--a lot.
I would probably have to watch a few more episodes to see what other stories the writers have since the pilot was about the characters coming together. From the pilot, I don't think I want to watch another episode of Tyler Labine and the three annoying kids.
