The Big Bang Theory, in general, is short on plot, choosing to have the characters do funny things rather than do something that advances a story in a linear fashion. "The 21-Second Excitation" is an extreme example of one of those episodes in which just about nothing happens.
There are literally two parts to the episode and that's about it. The guys wait outside a theater to watch Raiders of the Lost Ark, knowing they might not get in because they came too late. The girls have a slumber party and play truth or dare. It baffles me how the writers stretched it out to 30 minutes.
However, as much as the plot was lacking, I laughed quite a bit. Wil Wheaton's Jar Jar impression and Sheldon's Picard impressions were great and Amy was a total hoot.
And on the flip side, the episode does more for an overarching story than most episodes. Truth or dare opens the door for Penny to continue her relationship with Leonard. Going back to the third season, their relationship was pretty boring and not much came of it. But just like that, they were apart again. Now, with the prospects of their relationship reforming, we have to wonder exactly how the writers will make it better this time around.
