Review - Mad Men Season 3 Episode 13 Shut the door. Have a seat

I have no clue where to begin. The writers decided to through the show in a whole new direction splitting up Don and Betty, and then creating Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. Assuming the writers don't regulate everything between seasons which I'm hoping doesn't happen, season 4 looks like it can be very different.

The new agency has less employees, but still has the important people. That may be mean, but whoever they didn't bring over is unimportant. Pete and Peggy were thrown back together and surely they will have a big story next season. Joan made a quick return (seriously, the writers couldn't get rid of her if they wanted), joining the new company. It'll be interesting to see what happens between her and Roger.

I had not expected Betty to make any moves so fast after telling Don she didn't love him. The episode quickly advanced their divorce, and by the end of the episode, she was already flying to Nevada with Henry. Don didn't even put up a fight, leaving his best words for a drunken tirade which Betty ignored.

It will be interesting to see how Betty is integrated into the story next season. There's no way January Jones would leave the cast without an uproar, but having Betty with Henry, and Don doing his own thing poses a huge problem. I'm not sure anyone would like to see how Betty is dealing with her new situation for an entire season. She'll have to come back to Don eventually or her character will become irrelevant.

The situation with Connie was cut oddly short as he told Don the news and never came back. Don had been putting up with Hilton the entire season, viewing him as a father figure, but he at last came to an understanding as he later did with Betty and just let it go.

There were great scenes between Peggy and Don who've had somewhat of a strained relationship this season. Don realizes that unlike his situation with Betty, all hope was not lost with Peggy and he could get her to join.

Favorite Line: Roger - "Peggy, can you get me some coffee?" Peggy - "No." And then everyone just keeps working.

Score: 9.9/10

In Betty's last scene, she's flying off to Reno with the baby, Don is out of the house, and Carla is watching the older kids. But she's not a full time, live-in-maid. Who's with the kids when she's in her own home with her own family?

Has anyone else wondered if Betty's baby really isn't Don's child? Remember when she picked up a guy in a bar last season and they had sex in a stock room? Then, she's pregnant. Then, she had a baby. Is that the baby, or is it Don's? If it's a result of her quickie, then she's guilty of adultery and that, under NY state law, would give Don the cause for a divorce, not her. Just a thought.

Betty was already pregnant when she had the quickie with the guy in the bar.
Nope, Don is the babydaddy.

I would like to see how Betty's life continues on without Don. Don't assume that everyone feels the same way as you. I don't watch MAD MEN simply for the folks at Sterling Cooper or the new Sterling Cooper Draper and Pryce. I want to see how Betty's story will turn out.

Shouldn't Don be with the kids, while Betty is out of town getting a divorce? Or do you assume that because he is a man, he doesn't have to assume some responsibility for his kids, whether it is 1963 or not?

Why is it that no one bothers to question why Don isn't taking care of his kids in Betty's absence? After all, he had finally agreed to divorce her.
