There's lots to dislike about "Fire." Within the first 5 minutes, the viewers knows exactly what's going on and we wait and wait for Mulder and Scully to catch up, not very exciting if you ask me. There are zero twists in the episode. Cecil L'Ively can ignite things with his mind and lusts after woman. That's it. Eventually, Mulder and Scully beat him. Whoop de do.
Then there is Mulder's fire problem and Phoebe Green. What's the significance? Not much. Mulder's problem with fire isn't really explored in this episode or later ones, randomly showing up to cause Mulder some discomfort. The relationship between Phoebe isn't believable nor is it remotely interesting.
I'm trying to think of something good about the episode, and I can only come up with the appearance of Mark Sheppard. Sheppard, as we know by now from his various roles on television, is an awesome actor and does a good job creating a crazy pyromaniac.
Score: 7.2/10
