The main plot of "E Malama" is a largely pointless romp through the jungle where McGarrett leaves to hunt the killers, endangering the witness in the process. In the end, though, it works out due to Chin Ho's ingenuity. But seriously, was it a good idea to leave Chin Ho by himself?
Danny's subplot, involving his ex-wife and her husband Stan, is slightly more subtle. Instead of taking the easy route and making Stan the bad guy, the writers make him a good person, so much so that he is willing to take on corrupt political figures. To protect his daughter, Danny has to back Stan, and is more or less happy in the end.
