For a season finale, "Black and White" was rather tame, with with the usual case, a bit of Emily, and an exit point for Reynolds. It seems like most of the creative juice was spent earlier in the season and most of the cases in the second half of the season were plain.
The plot this week ended with the rich guy, Gordon Cook, revealed to be framing councilman, Dale Anslinger, for something he did many years ago. And because the truth comes out in the last few minutes of the episode without any build up, it's hard not to see the middle-section, filled with useless tension, as fluff to create a rift between Cal and the FBI.
I liked Mehki Phifer's performance as Reynolds, but I won't mind one bit when he leaves. Reynolds hardly adds anything to the show other than an additional source of jobs for Lightman.
