Review - NCIS Season 7 Episode 6 Outlaws and In-Laws

Am I the only one that hated the episode? I dislike Mike Franks and another episode dedicated to him and Gibbs was probably at the bottom of my list.

About halfway into the episode, I realized that Franks didn't kill the two marines and that he was protecting Leyla. There were no other suspects and not much investigating. Much of the episode was spent on asking Franks questions and learning about his family.

Tony, Ziva, McGee, Abby, and Ducky didn't help much, and I thought Abby would discover how Gibbs got the boat out of the apartment. Somehow, the writers forgot about that, and Abby was barely in the episode. The writers can choose never to tell us how Gibbs gets the boat out of his basement -- it's more of an abstract idea anyways -- but Abby proclaims she is going to get to the bottom of it, then the writers should at least follow up.

The ending was quite bad with the absurd attack by the mercenaries on U.S. soil, throwing a flashbang into Gibbs's house. Then one of the mercenaries turns out to be Damon Werth, the crazy steroid guy from season 5 and turns on his friends instantly, helping Ziva and Tony. Then the guy they work for, played by Robert Patrick, is arrested. What the hell?

There were plenty of funny scenes in the episode, but they just couldn't overcome the horrendously bad story. It may be that I'm still sick, but I thought even the NCIS: Los Angeles episode was better.

Score: 8.3/10
