Review - Modern Family Season 2 Episode 4 Strangers on a Treadmill

As a counterpoint to last week's episode about lying, "Strangers on a Treadmill" is based upon telling someone the harsh truth to prevent further embarrassment, despite the impulse not to. And, sticking to my point in last week's review, why did not lie in this episode and lie in last week's episode? Were the situations radically different?

Anyway, I liked that Claire and Mitchell came clean eventually. It's not like Phil or Cam were too hurt. Phil may tell the hammiest jokes, but gets many, many laughs. Cam, well, he runs off to cry, but Mitchell was just telling the truth--his junk was hanging out.

There were two subplots mixed into the episode which were good, but seemed to add unnecessary clutter to the episode. Jay and Gloria's experience at the "quincenera" is purely for laughs and general silliness, but Alex and Haley's strikes a different tone and could have been the center of an episode by itself. Normally, we see Alex hiding before homework or books, but when she tries to become popular, Haley steps in to help. Of course it ends badly, and Alex is upset. I'd really like to see more of what the two sisters can do together, especially how they can affect each other's social lives.

Score: 8.8/10
