Review - Castle Season 3 Episode 3 Under the Gun

We've always seen Beckett as the confident, experienced detective. She can handle the toughest of criminals and has a sharp mind. But what about her past? "Under the Gun" dives into that question with the return of her training officer.

The episode offers up a bevy of suspects--including Beckett's former traning officer--all of whom end up in a huge standoff at a cemetery in search for the buried treasure. In a more serious procedural, there would have been a huge shootout, but Castle throws sand in the air and saves the day.

While "Under the Gun" doesn't do anything as emotional as Beckett finding her mother's killer, it has a fair amount of pathos with the realization that her idol is a criminal. Of course, Castle always stays on the light side and has some heartwarming scenes with Alexis.

Score: 8.7/10
