Review - Party Down Season 2 Episode 7 Party Down Company Picnic

When I'm watching Party Down, I always have a thread running in the back of my mind that this is the final season with a probably wrap up in the final episode. About half of the actors are moving onto bigger show and the ratings are almost nonexistent (a standard for Starz). I kind of realize that being a ratings junkie may be cutting into my enjoyment of shows, because I consider the implications of external factors on the creative workings of shows like Party Down.

With 3 episodes left, there was an easy way to write Adam Scott out and would have fit perfectly in the themes of Party Down. Uda is offered a corporate job and Party Down and in turn, offers to bring Henry along. If she and Henry went through with it in the end instead of Uda turning down the job and Henry breaking up with her, that would leave Casey alone after rekindling things with Henry, a downer that would go with every other depressing thing that goes on.

"Party Down Company Picnic" was all over the place and Uda probably was the closest to the center, but there was so much other stuff going on I didn't particularly like any one subplot although there were plenty of funny lines. Casey gets a competitive streak and beats perennial champ, Garlan Greenbush. Kyle teaches Lydia's daughter, Escapade everything wrong, but Lydia wins her back eventually. Ron meets the daughter of Party Down's new owner, Danielle and slowly does his thing with her, even sleeping with her before she tells him she's engaged. On the bright side, Henry offers his job to Ron minus the perks; Henry gets to join the guys he feels most comfortable with and Ron is in the position of power he wants.

Score: 9.0/10
