Review - Castle Season 2 Episode 15 Suicide Squeeze

Continuing the trend of networks avoiding the Winter Olympics, Castle won't be back until March 8. Sadly, it didn't go into the hiatus on a strong note. The episode was reminiscent of early season 2 or season 1 episodes that were far below the past few episodes.

A Cuban baseball player named Cano Vega is found dead. In my experience, sports stories on procedurals sound a lot better than they actually are. Castle and Beckett investigate and find that Vega had a daughter in Cuba and helped get her out. The murderer turns out to be Bobby Fox, Vega's agent played none other by Ray Wise. Who couldn't see that one coming?

Alexis looks into her family tree and find a lot on Martha's side, mostly carnival-type people, but has no grandfather. Martha hooked up with a guy she loved, but never got to know. Castle is fine with that and doesn't once show that he needs to learn more. In the tradition of Psych, The Mentalist, and last week's Leverage episode, Castle pretends to be a mindreader, and we get some fun moments.

Joe Torre was wasted on the novelty of seeing Beckett get excited. That was fine and quite cute, but couldn't the writers have worked him into the story. And how much was Torre paid anyways? He showed up for a single scene and said about 5 lines.

Overall, not a bad episode, but it could have been much better considering we won't have a new episode for another month.

Score: 8.7/10
