Review - Criminal Minds Season 5 Episode 12 The Uncanny Valley

This had to be the creepiest episode of the season. Every scene--and there were many--with the human dolls was brilliantly directed, and chilled me. They had perfect makeup and clothes, but they couldn't move. Their face couldn't show how terrified they were. Instead, their haunting eyes of despair begged to saved.

Since so much time was spent on those disturbing scenes, the investigation wasn't that deep. The episode did focus on Reid who did an amazing job at the doctor's office, discerning every facet of the doctor's life after a cursory glance of his office.

There were two chess scenes, one in the beginning and one at the end, that tried to reveal something about a character through the symbol of chess. It know, a network crime procedural doing this is almost unheard of. He recalls playing chess with Gideon, and tells the guy in the park about him. He says Gideon got tired of playing chess because it was all the same outcomes. Of course it really meant that Gideon was tired of being in the BAU and solving crime. At the end of the episode, Reid is back and plays chess with the guy at the park. After a case so different than what we're used to, it may have shocked Reid into realizing that Gideon was wrong. There are still many possibilities out there, and Reid still isn't done exploring them.

Score: 9.3/10
