Review - Supernatural Season 5 Episode 9 The Real Ghost Busters

Two funny episodes in a row. Is that too much? After watching the episode, I think it would have been better if the writers can put in a few more serious episodes after last week's off-the-wall humor. I'm guessing they are saving all the apocalypsy goodness for the midseason finale, but I think there has been a tad too much funny lately.

The writers of Supernatural are unafraid to make fun of the show or the fans. In this episode, they unapologetically took shots at the homoerotic subtext, Ruby being obviously evil, and a myriad of other things that people complain about or discuss. The writers clearly know how to use meta-references effectively and really made the episode enjoyable.

The story was rather derivative as it was a typical ghost haunting with a slight twist. The first ghost they kill was actually good, so now the bad ghosts have to be killed. Pretty boring stuff, but everything in between made up for it.

We know where next week's episode is going. Apparently the superfan Becky knows more about the Supernatural universe than Sam, Dean, or Edlund, informing Sam about the whereabouts of the Colt. I guess fans are the best source for information.

Score: 9.5/10
